04-01-19 2018: Best Year Ever for TGE’s Electricity and Natural Gas Trading

Summary of activity on the markets operated by TGE:

  • In 2018, the volume of electricity trade at TGE totalled 226,052,409 MWh, which means an increase by 102.5 per cent comparing to the 2017 level.It is also the best result in the history of trading on TGE - both as a whole and individually for spot and forward markets.
  • The volume of transactions concluded on natural gas markets in 2018 totalled 143,305,606 MWh, which means a YoY increase by 3.4 per cent and is the best result ever in the history of trading at TGE.
  • The volume of electricity property rights traded in the last year totalled 59,302,830 MWh. This means an increase by 0.4 per cent comparing to the 2017 result.



03-01-19 TGE adjusts the mechanism to curb market prices volatility

•    At the beginning of 2019, TGE will assess the volatility of prices in the Commodity Forward Instruments Market for electricity and gas.
•    The analysis will also cover the size of restrictions applied under the static and dynamic spread mechanism implemented on 30 October 2018. As a result of the review, in the mid of January 2019, the static and dynamic spread will be adjusted to the price variability observed in individual markets, which in turn will result in improved liquidity on these markets.
•    As of 8 January 2019, changes in the time schedule for the market balancing process will come into effect.

27-12-18 Towarowa Giełda Energii (TGE) set out to apply for a licence to operate an OTF

•    On 20 December 2018, TGE submitted an application to the Polish Financial Supervision Authority for a permit to operate an organised trading facility.
•    During the process of applying for a license, the rules of trading on the Exchange will not change.


20-12-18 TGE expands its offering with low-methane natural gas

•    On 19 December 2019, Towarowa Giełda Energii (TGE) started listing low-methane natural gas on the Day-Ahead and Intraday Gas Markets.
•    The launch of exchange trading in low-methane natural gas (Lw grade) gas will extend transparent market pricing mechanism onto this market.
•    The project was developed in cooperation with the Transmission System Operator – GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.
•    In addition, TGE introduces a change in quotations on the Intraday Gas Market, where high-methane gas is traded. Instruments with hourly delivery will be replaced by a single intraday instrument.


19-12-18 TGE introduces a Liquidity Improvement Programme based on a new market-making model

  • As of 1 February 2019, Towarowa Giełda Energii (TGE) will launch a comprehensive Liquidity Improvement Programme. The programme will primarily be based on a new market-making model, which is addressed to those trading participants who are planning to cooperate with TGE and take on the role of a market maker.
  • The new market-making model assumes the introduction of additional mechanisms to protect Exchange Members acting as market makers on TGE against market risks (including the “Fast Market” mechanism), and encourages effective market-making by participating in a monthly competition for the best market maker (the “Best Market Maker” programme).
  • The introduction of the Liquidity Improvement Programme is the result of many months of discussions with market participants, as well as arrangements made with entities interested in performing the function of a market maker on TGE.

19-12-18 TGE launches a pilot “Maker-Taker” programme as another element of the Liquidity Improvement Programme

  • 1 January 2019 Towarowa Giełda Energii (TGE) launches a pilot “Maker-Taker” programme with the key objective of trading liquidity improvement regardless of the offer for market makers.
  • The Programme will be implemented in the period from 1 January 2019 to 30 June 2019. It will cover all forward contracts listed on the Commodity Forward Instruments Market for electricity operated by TGE.
  • The decision to continue, amend or abandon the programme will be published no later than 16 July 2019.
